Description:
| Founded in 1969, the UC Davis Intensive English Program is one of the oldest and most respected in the University of California system. It was developed for those who want to learn English for academic, professional or social reasons. This program is offered year-round in fall, winter, spring and summer and is open to students of all levels. Students undergo extensive written and oral evaluation on arrival at UC Davis and are then placed in one of eight proficiency levels with students of similar skills. Basic and intermediate level students focus on core grammar, listening and speaking, reading comprehension, writing and composition, and vocabulary skills using the Multimedia Resource Center for extensive skills practice. More advanced students choose from among various alternatives and electives: conversational fluency, pre-academic skills in research, critical thinking, advanced writing, and preparation for TOEFL or TOEIC tests. Some students choose to take a course for credit on the UC Davis campus or at University Extension. Students who plan to attend graduate school in the U.S. or work in an American setting often spend at least one quarter improving their English conversational skills in the Intensive English Program. Students have opportunities to interact with local and international students as well as enjoy the campus, the community and California through orientation activities, parties, conversation groups and partners and group trips. | |
