Description:
| IVP provides 6 week volunteer placements in the United States (California), France and the United Kingdom. Each summer, volunteers from North America and Western Europe travel to the other side of the Atlantic to be More than a tourist by helping nonprofit organizations with their work, meanwhile experiencing a new culture and often a new language.
Learn about a new country
The International Volunteer Program is a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in a new culture. This experience allows volunteers to discover new things about their host country and even about their own. Volunteers have learned what makes their home society different from that of the host and about the similarities.
Learn more about yourself
As a volunteer, you’ll learn more about yourself and the role you want to play in this world. This experience challenges volunteers to look beyond stereotypes about nationalities, disabilities, ages and languages to see to the realities that face people all over the world, every day.
The hope is that through IVP, volunteers will not only go abroad and learn, but that they will find that helping others has been a truly enriching experience for them on a personal level. The goal of this program is to encourage volunteers to also return to their home communities and find ways to make differences in the lives of those around them.
Lend a Helping Hand
Non-Profit agencies are always in need of more staff. Every day, agencies around the world could use an extra set of hands. Volunteers will be present to help others in a real way. Whether in a retirement home, summer camp, or home for the blind, volunteers find that they have been a real help both to their host agencies and to their clients.
IVP’s host agencies provide volunteers meaningful, full-time (35-40 hours a week) work in a variety of fields. Work might include reading the newspaper to the elderly, leading a tour of a 13th century museum, working with the disabled, or being a camp counselor at a children’s summer camp.
