| Have you ever wanted to use seed beads in a painterly way?? Learn to create new colors in your beadwork by placing various colored seedbeads side by side to create the visual effect of different colors. Fiber artist and popular instructor Gayle Liman will demonstrate the color techniques of pointillism, gradation, chroma bridges and simultaneous contrat by weaving with beads.
Gayle begins by discussing color theory and students will create a grey scale, a color wheel and chroma bridge in preparation to complete their final project - a loom beaded painting. You will then draft a design on graph paper and draw in your color scheme with colored pencils. At this stage, Gayle will be available to help students learn to draw on the artist within through exercises in visual imagery and the transfer of this imagery into art. Participants will also learn all warping and wefting techniques, including how to make their own bead looms.
Gayle will also accompany students to local Mayan markets. the 'huipiles' worn by indigenous women and other woven goods found there often initiate discussions on design and color - not to mention provide inspiration for your own new creations. Gayle is a nationally-recognized artist who has traveled and studied extensively in Guatemala. She will draw on her wide experience in colors, design, weaving and beaded needle techniques to help students create from the textile-filled environment around them. | |
