Description:
| Join noted fiber artist and author Karen Searle for a unique opportunity to meet and work with indigenous weavers throughout Guatemala. Weaving is an important part of indigenous Guatemalan women's lives. It provides both economic and spiritual sustinance.
Participants wil base out of the old colonial capital of ANTIGUA, with field trips to weaver's homes for demonstrations and typical meals in nearby villages. An excursion into Guatemala City will bring you to Museo Ixchel, Guatemala's ethnic costume museum, as well as some magnificent fabric stores.
In addition, you'll spend three days in the spectacularly gorgeous Lake Atitlan area in the western highlands. From the bustling town of Panajachel, you will travel by boat to the scenic villages of Santiago Atitlan and San Juan La Laguna, visiting weaver's cooperatives there and also in Solola, while learning about some of their inspiring community development projects. This tour is appropriate for appreciators of fine fabrics - as well as those who make them. | |
