Description: I H NEWCASTLE LANGUAGE AND METHODOLOGY COURSE FOR NON-NATIVE TEACHERS OF ENGLISH 2 week courses for overseas teachers of English at one of the most respected teacher training schools in the U.K. The courses include language awareness, methodology, and new approaches such as: Computer assisted Language Learning, The Lexical Approach and Task Based Learning. Designed to suit newly qualified and experienced teachers. Your standard of English must be at least intermediate level. The course includes observation of English classes and regular teaching practice sessions. Fees 2 weeks £450 for tuition and all class materials. Accommodation, excursions and full social programme available throughout the year. Starting dates: October 1st , January 7th 2002, 11th February, 25th March, throughout July and August, 30th September and 11th November. Extra courses are often run on demand, especially for groups Teacher Training at International House Newcastle International House was founded by John and Brita Haycraft in 1953. Its activities are now supervised by an Educational Trust whose main objectives are the development of standards in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language world-wide and the fostering of international understanding. Trustees are drawn from a wide range of fields including a number of key organisations in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language, among them the British Council and BBC English. There are over 100 affiliated schools in 27 countries. International House Teacher Training was established in 1962 and is widely known for training teachers of English as a foreign language. Its original Introductory Certificate course provided the model for what is now the Cambridge/RSA Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults. With a tradition of innovation and development, the range of courses offered by IH Teacher Training in Newcastle increases every year. One of the current areas of development is a 1 week introductory course to Teaching English as a Foreign Language, which is designed to give prospective candidates a taste of what to expect on the Cambridge/RSA Certificate course. The Teaching in the Classroom International House uses the 'Communicative Method' in its teaching. This involves using the students' opinions, feelings and experiences as a resource in the classroom to personalise the language being introduced or practised. We encourage pair and group work to help the students to get more practice and the teacher can spend more time listening to the students giving personal attention. As a school we feel that the traditional teacher-centred approach to language learning has often failed students in the past and International House has been pioneering this communicative method with undeniable success for over 40 years.
