Description:
| Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine offers Master of Science in Oriental Medicine. It was founded in 1990 and became a candidate for ACAOM accreditation in 1994 and was accredited in 1996. In 2000, TCM World magazine recognized TCTCM as one of the top three TCM schools in the country. The College is a member of the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM), the National Alliance of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and the Texas Association of Acupuncturists, It is also an approved school under the regulations of the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners. TCTCM is affiliated with Heilongtiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Harbin, the People's Republic of China, which offers students the chance to study in China. Traditional Chinese medicine hospitals in China treat approximately 80 percent of their patients with herbal therapy, and the remaining 20 percent with acupuncture. Students in China, therefore, focus primarily on Chinese herbal training and secondarily on acupuncture and Tui-Na. While the opposite is true in the U.S., TCTCM is working to change that process. Students at TCTCM must be familiar with classic Chinese texts, such as Shori Han Lun and the Glimpse of the Golden Chamber, by Dr. Zhang Zhoongjing. At TCTCM, "knowledge is the key to understanding, and passion is its drive."
