| This intensive two-year program is designed for students who wish to study contemporary biblical (Hebrew scriptures) studies, providing grounding in Biblical (as well as Modern) Hebrew, and enabling students to specialize in one of two tracks: The Bible: Cultural and Historical Context and The Bible and the Ancient Near East. ……
In the Bible: Cultural and Historical Context specialization, the student will study the historical, cultural, and geographical context in which the Bible was composed, as well as the influence and "reception" of the Bible in later cultural and historical contexts. ……
In the Bible and the Ancient Near East specialization, as well as studying the Bible in its immediate regional context, the student will be expected to acquire a sound basic knowledge of the history and culture of the Ancient Near East, including the study of Akkadian. (Students who so choose will also be able to study other ancient languages, such us Egyptian, Ugaritic, or Greek.) ……
This intensive two-year M.A. in English, offered in conjunction with the Department of Bible, the Institute of Archaeology, and the Program of Ancient Near Eastern Studies of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, is designed for students who wish to study at the Hebrew University, but are not yet fluent in Hebrew.
The Program of Ancient Near Eastern Studies presents an integrated overview of both the history and the cultures of the Ancient Near East. It combines courses in the Bible with courses in the history and archaeology of the Ancient Near East, as well as Egyptology, Assyriology and language study. ……
To help each student take full advantage of the resources available at the Hebrew University, participants in the program are assigned an academic advisor, available for consultation throughout the year. Students with a sufficient command of Hebrew are encouraged to take their courses with Israelis in Hebrew in the faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences. Students are expected to attain Hebrew fluency before entering the final semester of the program. ……
