Description:
| The course will investigate the health care systems and history of medicine in several different countries. We will consider health care generally and HIV/AIDS specifically. We will use the rich resources of each city we visit to help us examine the course goals in an unique way. In London, we will meet with community service organizations and hospice. In Paris, we will learn about efforts to provide effective sex education to French youth. In Amsterdam, we will investigate how the city deals with emerging HIV/AIDS cases, especially among sex workers and intravenous drug users. Along the way, we will take time to visit sites such as the Tower of London, the Eiffel Tower, and the Van Gogh Museum. This course is intended for students planning to attend medical school and for those with an interest and investment in HIV/AIDS. Priority will be given to those students, though energetic students with a variety of backgrounds are welcome to apply. | |
