Description:
| Study chemistry, civics, art, geography, history, math, philosophy, physical education, Spanish, and literature. The Bolivian school year runs from February through November, with a winter vacation in June. Make new friends while enjoying Bolivia's natural beauty and history. Be part of the Southern Routes trip, visiting colonial cities and sites such as the mines of Potosí. Join the optional trip to the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt plateau in the world. You can also take part in the Northern Routes trip, which includes a visit to the cities of Santa Cruz and Trinidad and three amazing days in the jungles of Beni.
The cultural wealth, breathtaking Andean landscapes, and the remnants of mysterious, ancient civilizations that are thought to stretch back some 21,000 years make Bolivia one of the most exciting destinations in South America! Once part of the ancient Incan Empire, Bolivia is a fascinating mix of the indigenous culture and the Mediterranean influence brought by the Spanish explorers. During religious festivals like the Carnaval of Oruro, pre-Columbian ceremonies take place, and the indigenous peoples express themselves through dances and songs that blend the two cultures. One of the most interesting things that Bolivia has to offer is its diversity, seen in the different ethnic groups, the languages spoken, and definitely in its geography! In Bolivia, you may have the chance to explore the beautiful Andes Mountains (more than 24,000 feet above sea level), travel through rich valleys, and end up in the Amazon region. AFS Bolivia hosts more than 130 students from around the world each year. | |
