Description:
| The Work Immersion Study Program in Germany provides an opportunity for community college students to gain practical work experience, improve German language skills, and experience German culture firsthand from June through August. CDS International, Inc. (CDS), in cooperation with the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) and the Goethe-Institut, arranges for internships in a variety of business and technical fields. The three-month program starts with a one-month language course at a Goethe-Institut in Germany, followed by 2 months of paid internship with a German host company.
Program Details: Once you have been accepted to the program, CDS will find an internship position with a host company in Germany for you. We work with all types of companies: small family-owned businesses, medium sized companies, or multinational holdings. Some companies are experienced in accommodating foreign interns. For others, this will be a first-time experience. Internships will be paid, or you will receive a stipend from CDS. This compensation will cover basic expenses, such as transportation and food. You should be able to provide additional funds for travel expenses, emergencies, or incidentals.
Duration: Three months, consisting of a language course in June, followed by a 2-months internship. The end date is usually around August 25, but will ultimately depend on the fall schedule of your university in the U.S.
Eligibility Requirements: Candidates must be at least 18 years old and have at least one semester of German instruction completed prior to the start of the program. Participants must also have at least one year of study at a community college in a business or technical field. Practical experience in your desired field is required. Only community college students will be considered for this program.
