Description:
| CPI offers Spanish immersion through intensive classes and homestay with Costa Rican families. The small class size (average of 2 students per professor, maximum of 4) allows for an emphasis in conversation and provides students with the opportunity to speak Spanish from their first moment in class.
Class time is structured around grammar and conversation which is supplemented by exercises (oral and written) as well as other activities allowing students to practice what they have learned. Programs have been designed for students of all levels (3 beginner, 3 intermediate, 2 advanced,and superior) for time periods of 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks and are developed to enable the student to communicate in the shortest time possible or in the case of intermediate and advanced students provide the opportunity to perfect their knowledge of Spanish. All programs include the study of vocabulary, syntax and morphological exercises (verb tenses, conjugations and uses) as well as other linguistic exercises, such as: directed conversations, writing, reading, comprehension and pronunciation. The primary objective of CPI is to ensure the ultimate learning experience by utilizing modern teaching methods in an environment of constant feedback and revision. Students soon discover that it is easy to communicate in Spanish and by simultaneously living with a Costa Rican family they broaden their horizons through direct immersion into a culture different from their own. Specialized services include: airport pick-up, homestays, bilingual office staff, volunteer opportunities, organized weekly and week-end tours, free organized weekly activities, and access to e-mail.
CPI is the only school with campuses in three separate regions of the country. San Joaquín, in Heredia, is a small town located far enough away from San José to maintain a tranquil and safe environment, yet is close enough to take advantage of the capital city with its easy access to the rest of Costa Rica. Monteverde, famous for its cloud forest reserves, is the perfect location for nature enthusiasts. Flamingo beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica, is the ideal spot for beach lovers. You can divide yourtime between the three schools and see three very different parts of Costa Rica! Through our volunteer program, students at CPI are provided with an outstanding opportunity to help different communities as well as practice Spanish, learn new words and expressions, and experience Costa Rican culture outside of the classroom. Additionally it gives students the chance to gain valuable experience in various fields which may lead to or be helpful in obtaining paid positions later.
Volunteering can also be a way for students to extend their stay in Costa Rica and continue practicing Spanish after they have finished their studies at CPI.
