Description:
| For the 2002 Summer Study Abroad London Program, the group will depart from Atlanta on either June 26 or 27, and return on July 31 or August 1. Students may take a maximum of six semester hours (two three-hour courses). Each course meets in class sessions two days a week and has a required day-long field experience each week, when faculty members accompany students to sites related to their fields of study. Weekends involve either free travel or optional overnight field experiences to locations outside the London area.
Courses are offered in art, business, economics, mass communications and telecommunications, history and world civilizations, literature, political science, psychology, travel writing, humanities, and theater.
The site for the five-week program is the campus campus of the University of Surrey at Roehampton, located in pleasant parklands thirty minutes by bus and underground southwest of the center of London. With a safe, self-contained campus atmosphere, Roehampton offers easy access to London's theaters, museums, historical landmarks, and lively nightlife. Attractions near Roehampton include the Royal Park of Richmond, complete with wild deer; Hampton Court Palace, the magnificent home of Henry VIII; Wimbledon, location of the annual tennis championships; and many other historic and cultural sites. Roehampton is well placed for students to enjoy the United Kingdom beyond London and its environs, using the British Rail connection. Many students travel the short distances to Windsor, Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Stonehenge, and Bath; many also take weekend excursions to other locations in Britain or to continental Europe - only a few hours away. | |
