The directors of Proyecto Lingüístico Santa María (PLSM) would like to offer you a warm welcome and invite you to participate en the exciting experience of learning Spanish in Guatemala. Guatemala is a beautiful country, rich with ancient culture and tradition and a warm and friendly population. As such we believe that Guatemala is an ideal place to learn the Spanish language in a tranquil but stimulating environment. The Project is located in Quetzaltenango, the Guatemala's second largest city, and a major cultural center. The city lies in the heart of the western highlands and is also the center of the Quiche Mayan people. For this reason it is referred to more commonly by its Quiche name, Xelajú (or simply Xela).
For the past eight years, PLSM has been dedicated to the teaching of the Spanish language in a professional and innovative style. Learning is by a process of total immersion based on individual, one-to-one instruction. We also offer cultural activities designed to give the student an understanding and appreciation of the history, politics, culture and people of Guatemala.
Throughout the years PLSM has also made significant contributions to the field of Spanish language teaching through the publication of a range of textbooks known as the Languagility Series.
Our theme, 'Communication, Fraternity and Solidarity without Frontiers' identifies us as a project based on principles of humanity and solidarity, with the objective of offering a complete and thorough learning experience to each of our students. The aim of all who work with PLSM is to ensure not only that you will be able to communicate effectively in Spanish by the end of your visit, but also that you will return to your country with a piece of Guatemala in your heart.
