Description:
| Cuernavaca, known as the “City of Eternal Spring”, is a perfect location to discover the language, culture, and warmth of Mexico. Abundant in history, Cuernavaca dates back to 1530 when Cortés built a Palace overlooking the main plaza in the city. The palace is now a museum housing several Diego Rivera murals. Today, Cuernavaca is the fast-growing capital of the state of Morelos, with a population of about 500,000. Many Mexicans spend their holidays enjoying the warm sun and thermal spas of the area.
This program is designed for students who have had little or no previous study of the Spanish language. Participants will spend an exciting term earning University of Minnesota credits at Cemanahuac Educational Community, an international language institute. The semester program integrates language and culture classes with the experience of living with a Mexican family. (The option to transfer studies to the rural town of Buenavista de Cuéllar gives participants the opportunity to experience yet another aspect of Mexican culture and tradition.) Courses are designed to help fulfill second language requirements, and emphasize learning Spanish through listening, speaking, and writing. Winter, May, and summer terms are designed to teach intensive Spanish language. Each option allows students to complete a semester of Spanish in three weeks. | |
