Description: Our program is 28 years old and has proven itself to be a success for participants who need to attain a working knowledge of conversational Spanish in a short period of time. Emphasis is on achieving oral proficiency through speaking and listening practice. In order to assure a high degree of personal attention from the instructor, there is a maximum of six students in each group. The teachers are all university graduates with six to 25 years experience in teaching Spanish as a Second Language. Students range in age from 16 to 75. They are mostly professionals from the U.S., Canada and Europe who need Spanish at work; university students studying for credit; or adults who are planning to travel or live in Spanish-speaking countries. Study programs with specialized vocabulary or cultural emphasis for business executives, medical personnel, teachers and other professionals are available. Comments from former participants include 'teachers are not only professional, but helpful, enthusiastic and very patient'. Academic standards at the Center are high and certificates are issued so participants are able to receive credit or credit equivalency through placement exams upon return to their home universities. Students who wish to study for credit should check with their home school academic advisor regarding transfer of credits prior to their registration. We feel we offer the highest quality homestay program in Mexico. We also assist participants who want condo, apartment, or hotel lodgings in making the reservations.. The school is located in the old colonial part of Mazatlán. Mazatlán is unique among Mexican beach destinations, in that it offers all the amenities of an international resort while still retaining the charm and hospitality of a typical Mexican town. The Centro issues student ID cards with which participants can obtain discounts on the many activities available: sailing, jet skiing, scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing, water skiing, surfing, deep sea fishing, Tai Chi classes, yoga classes, dance classes, tennis, golf, all water sports, kayak, nature and birdwatching tours; tours to mountain villages; boat trips along the coast; visits to Mazatlán's aquarium (the largest in Mexico); walking tours of the historic center of the city. GROUP CLASSES, MORNING SCHEDULE, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY: 8:30 to 9:30: Pronunciation and/or Listening Comprehension Workshop. 9:30 to 1:30: One hour and 45 minutes of structure practice in groups of no more than 6 participants and one hour and 45 minutes of conversation and vocabulary practice, with a 30-minute rest break in the middle.
