Description:
| Buongiorno! Study Italian at CENTRO DI CULTURA ITALIANA IN CASENTINO (CCIC) in Poppi (Arezzo), Italy.
The river Arno has its source above the valley of the Casentino and flows across Tuscany from east to west, through Florence and Pisa on its way to the sea. On the banks of this river the Italian language was born and Renaissance culture flourished. The Casentino is situated in the north-eastern part of Tuscany between Florence and Arezzo. It is a wide and resplendent valley surrounded by a ring of mountains. In the center of this valley, on top of a hill, sits a medieval town with a castle towering above it: Poppi.
THE SCHOOL:
The Italian language school for foreigners known as the Centro di Cultura ltaliana in Casentino (CCIC) was founded in 1980 in collaboration with Poppi's municipal administration. Our courses are planned to combine both the learning and practical application of the language in a varied, pleasant and stimulating environment. For this reason we have chosen an area of great natural beauty, steeped in history, art and culture, where pure Italian is spoken. The liveliness and experience of the teachers, the personal care and attention that will be given to you, and the open, friendly character of the local people will ensure that your stay in Poppi is enjoyable and useful.
THE COURSES:
Our 2-week intensive courses run consecutively from April to October, with maximum attendance in the summer months. They provide 20 lessons per week (Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) as well as practice and seminars in the afternoons. The students are divided into 3 or more classes according to their knowledge of the language, Each class has a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 8 students. In addition, each course includes a program of trips and excursions accompanied by the tutors, who are very knowledgeable about local history and culture. (Some of the more notable destinations are the frescoes of Piero della Francesca in nearby Arezzo, and the monastery of La Verna, where Saint Francis of Assisi is said to have received the stigmata.) Each weekday morning the students have two lessons. In the first lesson, the emphasis is on grammar and syntax, while the second lesson concentrates on dialogue and conversation. The lessons are lively and rich in stimuli and content, Even at elementary levels, languages other than Italian are never used. Our teachers make wide use of material especially designed by the school to complement the textbook. Newspaper articles, audiovisual material, expressive games and theatrical techniques are used to bring the language alive.
