Description:
| Centro Mexicano Internacional is an international learning center dedicated
to the teaching of Spanish, Mexican culture, and other related courses to
foreign students, English and American culture to Mexican students, as well
as the standard required and elective courses to our students in CMI's
international preparatory school.
It is our goal to provide an opportunity for inter-cultural sharing and
acceptance among our students and our community in addition to acquiring
language skills.
INTENSIVE AND TUTORIAL PROGRAM
Participants may elect to begin studies any Monday of the year. The Program
consists of 4 hours a day of classes of grammar and conversation. In
addition we have activities everyday designed to insure that you learn the
Spanish language in a context which enhances your understanding of Mexican
and Latin American Cultures. Classes never exceed five students.
Intensive students may audit University Program courses for no extra charge.
We recommend that, if an academic course is of particular interest to a
student that he or she plan to arrive at the beginning of the university
term. A tutorial mode is available for those who want the guarantee of
one-on-one instruction.
Homestay cost per day in double occupancy per student... 14 usd, single
homestay or special diet add 3 usd per day per student.
UNIVERSITY PROGRAM:
This program encompasses mini session, quarter and semester courses in
college level Spanish combined with classes taught in English and Spanish in
a wide variety of disciplines offered by faculty from participation colleges
and universities as well as resident CMI faculty. The University Spanish
Program is designed for serious students who are willing to devote a daily
minimum of three hours of class time and three hours of study. Emphasis is
placed on pronunciation, vocabulary building, listening comprehension, logic
and structures of the language, speaking, reading and writing. Students are
encouraged to take advantage of the Spanish speaking environment through
extracurricular activities and personal contact with Mexican people.
Assignment will be made to an appropriate level based on information
provided on the application form and a test and oral proficiency interview
administered upon arrival. Arrive for the beginning of the fall,
winter,spring or summer sessions and take the mini sessions for four weeks
earning one half course credit (two credits).
In addition to a Spanish Course at the appropriate level which meets three
hours daily, most students take one or two other courses. Academic courses
are offered for eight or nine weeks of each session. Intensive Spanish
students may audit any of the University Program courses at no extra cost.
Craft and activity courses are four weeks long and may be repeated.
