Founded in 1297, San Giovanni is a small medieval Tuscan town of 17,000 inhabitants. It is safe, friendly and lively and handy to Firenze (35 km.), Arezzo (30km), Siena (50km.), as well as Tuscany generally.
The Valdarno region of San Giovanni is one of Tuscany's best kept secrets, different from the normal tourist sites and not crowded with sightseers. If you want to practice your Italian in a genuine territory, this is the right place. Here, it's easy to make friends with genuine Italians and living is cheaper than in other cities crowded with tourists. San Giovanni offers its' guests a tranquil stay, far from big city chaos and smog - an excellent opportunity to "get away from it all" IN A TYPICAL Italian environment
San Giovanni is on the main Roma to Firenze rail route, making it a convenient launching point to all major Italian cities and regions. Trains to Firenze and Arezzo are frequent and quick (30-35 minutes) and Roma is only three hours away by rail. Arriving by car is equally as easy. San Giovanni is on the A1 autostrada, Italy's most important super highway, which links the northern and southern regions of the country.
