Description:
| The core of the London Semester is a four week program centered in London. This core, directed by Virginia Tech faculty, gives students an opportunity to examine British politics within the changing context of the nation-state. Seminars and readings will concentrate upon the structures and policies of the European Union, the implications of British membership in that union, and the evolving relationships between the Parliament of the United Kingdom and the new Parliament in Scotland. Field trips and visits with politicians will supplement classroom work. Four day trips to Brussels and to Scotland will augment the resources available in the London area. A special set of preparatory sessions will take place in the spring before leaving for Europe.
Students may choose to remain in London for an additional six week unpaid internship in a public or non-profit agency. The supervised internship will provide professional experience in a position involving British or international issues. Only students completing the core program of the London Semester are eligible for the internship option. Costs vary depending upon the conditions of the internship.
