Description:
| The city of Quito, the capital of Ecuador and an official study site of Nicholls State University, is set in the Andean Highlands. Quito is approximately 9,350 feet above sea level. Tiny villages cling to the steep mountain slopes. Roads lead north and south to colorful Indian markets such as the Otavalo, Ibarra and Ambato. There are volcano landscapes in the nearby provinces of Imbabura, Tungurahua, and Chimborazo. Quito, also, displays the best of 17th and 18th century art in its churches, monasteries, and museums.
