Description:
| Known for its friendly people and tropical beauty, Ghana provides an ideal setting for exploring rich and diverse cultural traditions through music. By observing and interacting with local musicians in the capital, Cape Coast, and a small village outside Cape Coast, this course provides the chance to experience and learn about another culture.
Led by Professor Akosua Addo, Department of Music, this course examines the musical and cultural traditions of Ghana through lectures, field trips, and discussions with local musicians. This program is ideal for students interested in music, anthropology, African studies, and cultural studies.
A predeparture class meeting and reading help ensure that students can more easily adjust to Ghanian culture, and are academically prepared for the in-country coursework. Assignments in Ghana consist of readings, field observations, discussions, journal writing, and papers. Credits: 3 for May Session. | |
