Description:
| The Gerrit Rietveld Academie is a leading Dutch university-level art school with over 800 students. The Academie employs 200 tutors, many of whom are independent artists or designers. About 40% of Rietveld's students come from outside of the Netherlands. Students' programs are individually structured, and students can complete their studies in English. The Academie stresses student independence and creativity, and offers a great deal of individualized instruction and attention.
At the Academie, you are not given assignments, but receive coaching from the tutors. You work on projects under their supervision and take courses in theory that include museum excursions, films, and lectures by experts. Art courses offered include visual arts, audiovisual, graphic arts and design, photography, fashion design, architectural design, industrial design, ceramics, jewelry, glass design, textile design as well as painting and sculpture. All students participate in a weekly art theory and history course. The school has well-equipped studios including up-to-date computer facilities using a Macintosh platform.
Like IES, the Gerrit Rietveld Academie puts considerable stress on the development of students' intercultural understanding. | |
