Description:
| In fall 2002, Nazareth College of Rochester, New York, and Studienforum Berlin offer a semester program in Berlin, Germany, for undergraduate students from the USA. In addition to a week of orientation, the program encompasses five components: three liberal arts courses (45 h each), taught in English; a German language course (55 h); and an unpaid internship (90 h) permitting use of English, at corporations and public institutions in Berlin. Accommodation and board is in homestays. This program allows for the unique opportunity to see the changes in Germany and Central Europe first-hand and to experience history in the making. This fall's curriculum includes cross-listed courses (History, Sociology; Fine Arts, Literature; Political Science, Economics): “Germans and Jews”; “Literature, Theatre, Film in Berlin”; “The ‘Berlin Republic’ - United Germany in an Enlarging Europe”. The week of orientation will be supplemented through lectures, field trips, group discussions, selected readings and films as well as other extracurricular activities. During the program a student coordinator will be available to meet the special needs of the students. The Program is open to undergraduate students enrolled full time at an accredited university or college in the US. A minimum of proficiency in the German language is highly recommended. The intensive German language course will be held throughout the second and third week of the program (40 h) and be continued twice a week in the evenings (2 times 2 h per week over the subsequent 4 weeks). The 56-hour language instruction is offered on a beginning or intermediate level and will focus on practical language skills and conversation in order to facilitate a quick integration into life in Berlin. Deadline May 15, 2002. | |
