Description:
| NYU in Prague offers an exceptional array of academic courses for undergraduate students for the fall or spring semesters as well as for the full academic year. Each semester students take courses at the historic NYU Center and at Charles University, making the most of the opportunity to learn from prominent Czech professors.
Courses at NYU in Prague take advantage of the legacy of the Czech Republic and the historic transformations of contemporary Central Europe. The curriculum includes classes on the extraordinary tradition of art and architecture in Central Europe, much of which is still preserved in Prague; on the cultural legacy of music and theatre that has distinguished Central Europe for centuries; on the economic and political transformations of post-Communist society; and on the history of Jews in Central Europe. Students are offered a chance to study the politics and culture of transition, exploring the role of the media, the economics of privatization, the conflict between nationalism and internationalism, and the position of minorities in present-day society. Students may also study photography and film in a city where filmmaking thrives today as it has in the past. Courses are taught in English but are available in Czech for those with proficiency in the language. Students also take intensive Czech and, where desired, language courses in German, Russian and Polish.
Students have the opportunity to meet informally for discussions with leading cultural and political figures in Prague, including noted writers, filmmakers, diplomats, members of Parliament, and editors of leading publications. Whether they wish to study Eastern and Central European history, economics, and politics or Western European music, literature, and architecture, students from diverse disciplines are offered a variety of courses to meet their needs and interests. | |
