Description:
| This media ecology 2002 study abroad program examines the social, economic, political, and cultural implications of global media in Asia. Emphasis is placed on both global media originating from industrialized nations in the West and global media with their roots in China and Japan, as well as the hybrid cultures that emerge in Asia from the many localized uses of global media forms and popular culture products imported from the West. This course contains three learning modules. It begins with a series of on-line and in-person academic orientations in New York. Thereafter, students travel to Beijing and Tokyo, where special guest lectures and discussions led by renowned scholars in Asia supplement classes and seminars. Students also participate in guided visits to global media venues and conduct original field research. After the field trip to Asia, students complete an individual research project under the supervision of the instructor. | |
