Description:
| With its long history of neutrality, independence, and protection of the disenfranchised, Geneva has become the world's capital for international organizations dedicated to conflict transformation, social justice, and sustainable development. While the city retains much of its French heritage and Swiss culture, Geneva's population is truly international. Superimposed upon this cosmopolitan culture is the unique professional microculture of Geneva's many social and political organizations.
This program provides a thorough background in international studies, utilizing an experiential, case-study approach. Academic seminars are supplemented by lectures and briefings at international and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), including the United Nations, the Red Cross, and the World Trade Organization. A volunteer internship and field excursions throughout Switzerland or in Paris deepen your understanding of the political and economic challenges faced by organizations that seek to foster human rights, peacebuilding, environmental accountability, and sustainable development.
Prerequisites: Previous college-level coursework and/or other significant preparation in international relations or another academic discipline relevant to the program theme, as assessed by SIT. | |
