| India's most defining characteristic is its diversity. The modern Indian nation-state encompasses a multiplicity of religions, ethnicities, political states, languages and culturally diverse art forms. Its founding democratic principles continue to unfold and adapt amidst tumultuous political, economic and social restructuring.
An interdisciplinary program, the ACM India Studies Program addresses India's dynamism with language training, courses ranging from history to music, and independent field study. In Pune, each student lives with an Indian family. The home stay experience, a vital part of the program, enables students to establish close contacts in the Indian community and to play an active role in the social and religious life of an Indian home.
With its combination of cultural immersion and academics, India Studies offers a rare opportunity to gain a firsthand understanding of this complex and changing culture. | |
