Description:
| The itinerary includes highlights of four European countries. Participants will visit London, Paris, Giverny, Chartres, Basel, Bern, the Swiss Alps, Lake Como, Venice, Florence, Pisa and Cinque Terre. Each of these sites offers unique environmental details in the form of personal and public spaces. The cities, towns and villages themselves will be the classroom. The curriculum consists of one pre-departure meeting to introduce students to archetypal environmental patterns, some basic concepts of Carl Jung and the architectural ideas of Christopher Alexander. Throughout the tour, assignments unique to each location will be given. The course examines over 150 different living patterns found in regions, cities, towns, and homes. All students are to create an individual journal of their experiences. Journals should be related to course content and will be submitted at the end of June, upon return from Europe. Journal work will account for the major portion of the student’s grade. Students may earn 3 hours of University of Utah credit in Educational Psychology 5965 "The Psychology of Human Living Spaces." Course may be taken for a grade, credit/no credit, or audit. Course registration is arranged with the program director before departure. | |
