Description:
| Summer Session in London provides the opportunity to see some of the world's best English-speaking drama, and, of course, the unique experience of seeing the Royal Shakespeare Company perform Shakespeare's plays at the reconstructed Globe in Stratford-upon-Avon.
In addition to seeing classic and contemporary plays, you’ll have the chance to meet with actors, directors and other theater personnel who stage them. Your play-going experiences will be supplemented by meetings with the faculty director to discuss the plays; you’ll also write a minimum of six to eight short critiques of performances based on reading the plays and then seeing them.
Classes will be held at the University of Delaware's London Centre, a beautifully restored Georgian townhouse next door to the one-time home of novelist Charles Dickens. After classes, you’ll be able to hop on the nearby London Underground (the "tube") and discover the city’s sights.
You’ll be able to explore London’s many cultural institutions, including the National Gallery, the British Museum, the New Tate (and the old, too) and many other museums, galleries and historic landmarks. Excursions outside of London will include visits to Canterbury Cathedral, Stratford-upon-Avon, Stonehenge and Bath; if the medieval mystery plays are performed at Coventry Cathedral, the group may visit there as well. | |
