Description:
| Participants will study both the political and social events that fomented the French Revolution and the subsequent reaction in France and England and the cultural setting in both Paris and London. This will include literature, art, and architecture. Students will attend classes each morning, five days a week. Several afternoons each week will be devoted to guided visits to significant historical and cultural sites. The group will spend June 30 - July 15 living in Paris in double rooms in a modern residence in the 14th arrrondissement.. The Paris segment will culminate with celebration of Bastille Day. The following day the group will travel by Eurostar through the Channel tunnel to London. Dr. Sandford Gutman of SUNY Cortland's History Dept. will teach the graduate class in Paris.
In London (July 15 - 31) participants will live in single rooms in student housing at the University of North London. The structure of study and excursions will continue it was in Paris. Students will attend classes at the U. of North London where instruction will be given by faculty from UNL. SUNY Cortland has had a strong working relationship with UNL for over twenty-five years.
Weekends in Paris and London are free for independent study or travel.
