Description: The 65-day program will begin on June 15th and end on August 19th. The semester will begin in Piraeus, Greece and students will travel to Spain, Ireland, Norway, Russia, Poland, Belgium, Italy and Croatia, returning to Piraeus. The itinerary is subject to modification. The current tensions in the Middle East are being considered. It is our standard practice to evaluate information from a variety of sources, including the US Department of State, Pinkerton Global Risk Assessment and other sources in the US and the Middle East. Should a change to the itinerary be necessary, information will be posted on this site and participants will be notified. The comparative regional studies academic program will be structured similarly to Semester at Sea's fall and spring voyages. Students will enroll in three courses, earning nine credits, through the University of Pittsburgh's College of Arts and Sciences. Classes will meet daily while the ship is at sea. Students can participate in a variety of study and travel opportunities while in port. Tentative course descriptions are currently available on this site, and will be further updated as the voyage gets closer. The Semester at Sea maritime campus for the summer 2002 program will be the MTS World Renaissance, which will be equipped as a floating university. The 12,000 ton vessel, of the Royal Olympic Cruise Line, includes classrooms, student union, dining room, two swimming pools, and fitness facilities. Cabins are available in double and triple occupancy. Applications are being accepted, and can be downloaded and printed from this website. The program can accommodate 440 students. Early application is recommended. Spaces can be reserved upon academic admission. Participants are responsible for transportation to and from the point of departure and return. Discounted airfares to and from Athens will be available. As additional information becomes available the website will be updated. We hope that you consider studying abroad with us!
