Description:
| INFO makes arrangements to place trained volunteers in schools and communities in remote areas to teach English and to raise awareness about environmental issues, sanitation, income generating programmes and primary health care.
Since 2000, we have sent 154 volunteers from all over the world to placements throughout Nepal.
What are INFO's Objectives?
· To increase awareness of the need for English language and English literacy amongst Nepali students and school-leavers
· To educate communities about environmental issues
· To provide training for the community youth in creating an opportunities for self-employment
· To provide language lessons and cultural information to people who come to Nepal to study, to conduct research and to do voluntary work
· To introduce volunteers to the richness of Nepali culture and to ensure a safe and memorable stay in a supportive environment
Our Programmes
1. Teaching English
Programme length – 2 to 10 months
Volunteers will stay with a Nepali family in a rural village. The volunteers will teach at the local school for 2 to 3 hours each day, six days a week, with a break on Saturdays. The school children they will be teaching will be mostly 10 to 16 years of age and have basic English skills.
Volunteers enrolling on this programme will also be expected to share their own teaching methodologies as well helping the school's teachers to develop their own conversational English skills.
Volunteers on this programme can also provide informal teaching and lectures to youth or women's groups for 1 to 2 hours a day.
2. Environmental Awareness
Programme length – 2 to 10 months
Volunteers will stay with a Nepali family in a rural village. The volunteers will teach environmental awareness at the local school for 2 to 3 hours each day for six days a week except on Saturdays.
Volunteers can form student groups to undertake environmentally friendly tasks both inside and outside the school. Such tasks could include creating green clubs, planting a flower garden, planting trees, garbage management, paper recycling, making a smokeless stove, building a toilet pit using available local materials, etc.
They can also become involved in working with youth clubs or women's groups in the community sharing their ideas, skills and knowledge about environmental issues.
3. Health and Sanitation Issues / Primary Health Care
