Description: The purpose of the Anna Sobol Levy Fellowship is to enhance and strengthen the unique relationship between the United States and Israel by establishing genuine understanding and communication between future leaders of the two countries. The Anna Sobol Levy Fellowship–in the amount of $5,000, plus $1,000 for an individual tutorial with a senior member of the Hebrew University faculty–enables American students to attend the Rothberg International School of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for one year as Visiting Graduate Students. …… Recipients of the Fellowships are expected to participate in briefings and visits to Israeli military bases arranged by the Project Officer assigned by the Israel Defense Forces officer corps. The Anna Sobol Levy Fellows have a private tutorial with a leading professor of the Hebrew University, which focuses on Israeli-American relations, military strategies and doctrines. Fellows participate in seminars and tutorials offered by faculty of the Hebrew University in the fields of Politics and Society of Israel, the Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. Fellows are required to attend the Summer Hebrew Ulpan and to continue their Hebrew studies throughout the year in order to facilitate their immersion into and understanding of Israeli society. Fellows will also enroll in other relevant courses and pursue advanced training in the language of their choice. All courses are recognized by the University as equivalent to courses offered in its departmental degree programs. …… These awards assist students who are completing a graduate degree in any area of specialization chosen by the student. Recent college graduates and students currently enrolled in graduate programs are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have studied in the fields of military studies, economic geography, international relations, political science, or history. In addition, they must have career goals in the following areas: Armed Services, diplomatic corps, government, public service, or related professions. Present or prior Commission in the United States Armed Forces is preferred. Candidates must be citizens of the United States and no older than 30 at the time of application. The award of these fellowships is based solely upon scholastic excellence, character, ability, and promise, without regard to race, creed, sex, or religious affiliation. The Anna Sobol Levy Fellows are awarded an official transcript and a certificate of recognition upon completion of the Fellowship program. Any student who gains proficiency in Hebrew is encouraged to take courses in the Hebrew University's faculties. …… To help each student take full advantage of the resources available at the Hebrew University, participants in the program are assigned an academic advisor, available for consultation throughout the year.
