Description:
| This unique transnational program, based in India, Nepal, and (conditions permitting) the Autonomous Region of Tibet, offers an ideal setting in which to study traditional Tibetan culture and religion. Utilizing the resources of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, government agencies, and monastic colleges, you examine perspectives on Tibet's past, its cultural values, and the lives of historical and contemporary Tibetans.
Your program originates in Dharamsala, the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile in the mountains of northwest India, where you engage in intensive Tibetan language study, live with Tibetan families, and begin the interdisciplinary seminar. You then travel to Kathmandu, where the program curriculum focuses on the status of Nepal's sizeable Tibetan community. Conditions permitting, an excursion to the Autonomous Region of Tibet provides opportunities for you to explore monasteries and other cultural sites. | |
