Description:
| In Hong Kong, you'll live with a Chinese host family where you'll learn to speak Cantonese. Classes are usually taught in Cantonese, so to prepare, you will participate in a week of basic language training about a month after your arrival.
The school year runs from September to the end of June, with placement in the 10th through 12th grades in one of two branches of study—arts or sciences. While school is in session you can participate in sports, drama, history, debate, and other school clubs, and you are encouraged to become involved in a community service organization to enrich your experience. During spring break, take an optional, AFS-organized trip to mainland China, at an additional expense. There are also several other AFS-organized activities including Chinese cooking lessons, informal gatherings, and participation in the dragon boat races.
