| The institutions with which the University at Albany maintains programs are among the major universities in China. The options available to students will depend upon their background in Chinese. In general, students will be enrolled in courses which are specifically taught for foreign students.
Students with little or no training in Chinese may take coursework that concentrates on the Chinese language at the elementary level. Each skill (conversation, reading and listening comprehension, and composition) is taught individually. Elementary coursework is available at Beijing Normal University only.
Students with some training in Chinese may take coursework that concentrates on the Chinese language at the intermediate level. Each skill (conversation, reading and listening comprehension, and composition) is taught individually. These courses are available at all sites.
Students with an extensive background in Chinese may take additional courses in subjects such as Ancient or Modern Chinese Literature, Ancient or Modern Chinese History, or Philosophy. Courses in these subjects are often combined with work in Intermediate or Advanced Chinese.
Students who are fluent in Chinese may enroll in regular university courses in all subjects available at the host university. Most offerings in Chinese literature, history, and philosophy are open to foreign students, although the range of such courses varies from institution to institution. Some universities will provide a tutor to assist foreign students in regular courses. | |
