| As Mexico and the U.S. grow closer together, this student exchange program offers students the opportunity for intensive Spanish language study while gaining experience and knowledge about the Mexican people and culture. The Monterrey Institute offers an excellent intensive Spanish language program each term for beginning, intermediate and advanced students who wish to develop their language skills. Students who are more fluent in Spanish language can also select from a broad range of courses in business, international relations, humanities, communication, engineering and many other areas. Information on specific courses is available from the Office of International Programs at UW-Stout. This student exchange program is part of the link agreement between UW-Stout and the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). Campus Monterrey is the largest of the 26 campuses in the ITESM system which is Mexico's largest private university. Founded by business entrepreneurs in the 1940's, the campus has become a preferred place of study for over 14,000 students from Mexico, Latin America and other parts of the world.. It has an excellent faculty, modern classrooms and residence halls, state of the art computer facilities and many sports and recreational programs. The institute is fully accredited in the United States by the Southern Association of Universities and Schools and is a member of the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities. It awards bachelor's and master's degrees in over 50 major programs of study.
Monterrey, the capital of the state of Nuevo Leon, was founded in the sixteenth century on a plain in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountains about 150 miles from Laredo, Texas. A city four million, it is Mexico's leading center of industry and technology. Its museums, historic sites, theaters, sports arenas and commercial center offer students access to Mexico's rich cultural life.
