Description: The London Summer Art Study Program is sponsored by the UW-Stout Office of International Programs in co- operation with the UW-Stout Art and Design Department. It offers UW-Stout students a very special and unique opportunity to study art and design in a different environment and country. Classes in pastel drawing and acrylic painting will be the basis for exploring color work in outdoor studies such as cityscapes and landscapes. These classes will be structured to meet the needs and interests of students studying Art and Design at Stout. It will be special in that it will consist of doing studio work often inspired by looking at art works in museums and galleries. Four UW-Stout Art Department credits will be given for the four-week session in London. Students taking part in this program will be expected to work hard and seriously. The program will be a mixture of intensive work and pleasurable exploration and recreation. The study group will be limited to 15 students. This will provide a great degree of personal attention and instruction. It will also be possible to socialize and travel more freely and comfortably with such a small number. The London Summer Art Study Program will be directed and taught by UW-Stout professor Charles Wimmer. Professor Wimmer has been teaching for over thirty years. He has taught in some of the leading art colleges in England five years and has lived in London for ten years. His knowledge and love of London make him a very uniquely qualified person to direct and teach the summer program. For Art and Design students, London is an incredibly interesting and exciting place. There are dozens of world-renowned museums, galleries and architectural sites. There are major and minor cultural and social events going on constantly. There is always something interesting and educational to do. You will be living and working in a south London neighborhood where during the course of the day, by traveling, shopping and visiting markets you will have opportunities to meet British people in their home environment. As part of the program you will also get to meet and have lectures by London-based artists and designers. Students usually spend 3-4 days painting at Dalkeith House in Scotland, the home of the Wisconsin in Scotland Study Center. From Dalkeith participants have easy access to the castles, museums and other historical sites of Edinburgh, the beautiful capital city of Scotland.
