Description:
| The rich Humanities & Social Sciences curriculum lets you design a study of European culture, history, psychology, society and politics according to your own needs and interests.
Courses examine important art forms - ballet, painting, literature, and film - and major European and Scandinavian contributions to these; they pinpoint topical political issues, such as the Danish welfare state, European security, Russian reform, ethnic violence, or environmental protection; or they discuss the creation of individual personality, child development theory, etc. Many courses in history, criminal justice, ethics, philosophy, and psychology are also available, along with Danish language instruction at all levels.
The teaching combines underlying theories and subject matter with unique hands-on insights through studies in the field, in Copenhagen, Denmark and abroad.
Curriculum
Students enrolled in Humanities & Social Sciences can select courses from other DIS programs, also, provided you are in possession of the required prerequisites. In other words, you can choose to “spread out” and cover several topics or disciplines, or you can focus your courses around a specific subject. See the list of suggested concentrations. The course “20th Century European History” is highly recommended for all students.
Prerequisites
In addition to the general DIS admission criteria described on p. TK, the courses ‘Kierkegaard: Philosophy and Meaning in Life’ and ‘The Making of the Modern Self’ require a previous university-level course in Philosophy or Western Civilization; ‘Brain Functioning and the Experience of Self’ and ‘Developmental Psychopathology’ require a previous university-level course in introductory Psychology. | |
