Description:
| Juniors and seniors from CIC member institutions can spend eight weeks in London as research assistants to British Members of Parliament in the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Those not selected for parliamentary internships are eligible for a variety of other challenging political internships in London.
The Parliamentary and other political internships afford students the opportunity to hold positions of responsibility, limited only by individual initiative and energy. Interns engage in a wide variety of interesting work, including research, correspondence and constituency casework. Interns typically research local, national and international issues and write reports, press releases, subject briefs and even speeches. Students will be expected to work full-time, Mondays through Fridays. Interns need to be flexible with their schedules. In addition to internship requirements, students attend a series of evening seminars on contemporary issues in British politics.
Students can also apply for other challenging political internships, such as work in national party headquarters, pressure groups (e.g. Amnesty International), research institutes (e.g. Royal United Services Institute for Defence Studies) and trade unions. | |
