Description:
| Study History of World War II or Creative Writing in England and France. Get a feel for World War II, or discover the creative writer within you at inspirational sites in England and France.
Walk the Normandy Beaches where thousands of allied soldiers stormed ashore on D-Day, pace the floor in Churchill’s cabinet rooms in London where wartime decisions were made, step onto the deck of battle cruiser HMS Belfast and imagine the chaos of war.
In the Raymond Walters College Summer Study Abroad Program you can study and travel throughout Europe while taking one or two college credit courses at Harlaxton Manor during the summer of 2002.
Located conveniently an hour and a half by train from London, Harlaxton Manor is within easy traveling distance from many of Europe’s cultural centers. Your coursework will include exciting fully planned field trips to sites in both England and France, but will also allow you plenty of free time for travel on your own, if you wish.
In just three and a half weeks of study and travel, you will be transformed into a seasoned multi-cultural traveler.
During the term, your home base will be Harlaxton Manor, an elaborate collection of over 100 rooms in a variety of ornate architectural styles. Here you will eat, sleep, and study, except for overnight field trips. Over 150 years old, the manor is a uniquely romantic and exotic environment for learning. Explore its secret passages and search for ghosts, or stroll through the magnificent gardens.
You can challenge your fellow students to a game of snooker in the billiard room, or bike through quiet villages to nearby Belvoir Castle, stopping for refreshment at a pub along the way. Your experiences will be limited only by your imagination.
Estimated cost of the program, including room and board, airfare, ferry, and other transportation is $2,000. (This amount may be reduced if the program receives a grant from the University Institute of Global Studies and Affairs.) Tuition is extra. Ohio residents pay $101 per credit hour. Out of state tuition is $266 per credit hour.
Costs may vary. Books, incidental expenses, and additional independent weekend travel arrangements are not included.
A $100 application fee (refunded if not accepted into the program) is due no later than February 15, 2002. If accepted into the program, applicants must pay a $400 non-refundable deposit no later than April 1, 2002. Payment in full is due by May 1, 2002.
Applicants must be students in good academic standing and must enroll for at least three credit hours for participation in the program. In addition, students should be in good physical health, capable of substantial hiking outdoors, rain or shine. Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 24 students for the program.
