Description:
| Each year 100-125 students participate in AUC's Study Abroad Program. Many attend for the full year while others enroll for only one semester or the summer session. The fall semester usually runs from late August to late December; the spring semester from late January to late May; the summer session is held mid-June to the end of July. Most students attend their junior year of college, but qualified sophomores, seniors and individuals who already hold a bachelor's degree are welcome. Academic credits earned at AUC are usually accepted for transfer by U.S. colleges; however, study abroad students should obtain written approval of their study plans from their home university before enrolling at AUC.
AUC encourages its study abroad students to interact on a regular basis with its Egyptian students and to become participating members of the student body. To this end, the University is commited to the principle that study abroad students not be academically segregated from Egyptian students. All courses are equally open to all enrolled students depending upon space availability and satisfaction of prerequisites. Study abroad students may find the pace of instruction is affected by the fact that English is often the second or third language of their AUC degree-seeking classmates. Study abroad students are classified as non-degree students by AUC and are subject to AUC academic regulations as set forth in the institution's catalog. Students take four or five courses (12-15 undergraduate credits) each semester to maintain full-time status and qualify for a student visa. Students who already hold a bachelor's degree may take three graduate courses (nine gradutate credits) per semester. It is the responsibility of each student to be fully aware of his/her home university's requirements when they select AUC courses.
AUC's undergraduate liberal arts curriculum is broad enough so that study abroad students are able to find courses each semester in subjects that they wish to take. The University is organized into three undergraduate schools. In addition, there is the Graduate School, The Arabic Language Institute and the Center for Adult and Continuing Education. Study abroad students usually elect to take courses in one of the undergraduate schools. The most popular is the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Qualified students are also welcome to take courses in the School of Business, Economics and Communication or the School of Engineering and Sciences. Study abroad students should plan their course schedule with their advisor at their home university. Some students may wish to be eclectic in their course choices; other may wish to focus their studies in one discipline. | |
