Description:
| While your home base for the semester is Madrid, you will travel extensively throughout the Mediterranean. From the Islamic to the Christian world and from Latin to the Orthodox, the Mediterranean -- beyond the present political fragmentation -- is divided in extensive cultural communities or cardinal ways of thinking and living. In the program, you will come to understand the ancient area that is also modern and progressive through class meetings that take place in the museums and archeological sites.
Students earn a full semester of American University (AU) credit. These credits are readily transferable to other colleges and universities. All courses are taught in English at the beginning with Spanish used progressively more throughout the semester. Participants should preferably have taken at least one year of Spanish or had the equivalent. The following courses are offered in the program: Mediterranean Semester Seminar (6 credits); European Union and the Mediterranean (3 credits); Archeology and Anthropology in the Mediterranean (3 credits); Classic Literature (3 credits); Intensive Spanish I and II (4 credits); Intensive Spanish III and IV (4 credits); Internship (4 credits) | |
