Description: You will take courses at American University of Rome, located atop the Janiculum Hill. Enjoy classes with European faculty who emphasize Italian culture in every aspect of the curriculum. On-site lectures and field trips walk you through history in the arts, literature, and society. Engage in the ongoing activities of Rome by participating on a soccer team, the school newspaper staff, the school business club, or another student group. Your semester in Italy begins with a four-day orientation in the Renaissance town of Siena, where you learn basic Italian and the daily practices of Italian society. Tours of the city provide a unique view of tradition and change within your host culture. Study in an arts and humanities based curriculum at the American University of Rome. Earn a full semester of American University (AU) undergraduate credit, which is readily transferable to other colleges or universities. All students can choose to take the Italian Civilization seminar course, which surveys the history of Italian civilization from its roots to the present, with guest lecturers and on-site classes and discussion. Students can also choose from the following courses (please note that not all courses are offered both semesters): Italian Language; Art and Architecture in Rome; Roman Art; Baroque Art; Ancient World: Rome; Major European Writers; Image of Italy in British and American Writers; Twentieth Century Europe; Sociological Examination of Italy since WWII; Italian Sketchbook; Art of the Renaissance; Opera on Stage and Film; National Cinema; International Business; Political Economy of the European Union.
