Description:
| As a program participant, you'll begin your stay in Germany in early September with a four-week preparation session in Tübingen. This 3-credit course will concentrate on acquainting you with German culture and customs and preparing you to take the German language exam. The language exam, given in early October, tests proficiency in German. Most Oregon students with two years of German pass the exam on the first try. After the orientation, you may enroll in any course at your selected university, provided you have passed the German language exam, are sufficiently prepared in the subject matter, and have the permission of both the resident director and the professor offering the course. All classes are taught by faculty members of the German university.
Depending on how many classes you take during each semester, you should receive approximately the same amount of credit for your year in Germany as you would as a full-time student in Oregon. Participants will be registered at their home campus in the Oregon University System (OUS) and will receive credit from that institution. Each participant should consult with his or her academic advisor to determine how course work done in Baden-Württemberg will integrate with the home campus curriculum requirements. Equivalent course numbers for the courses you take in Germany are determined by the resident director of the program in consultation with you and your home institution.
Throughout the year, students receive assistance in academic and personal matters from the Oregon Study Center in Stuttgart, staffed by a program associate and by the resident director, an Oregon faculty member. Housing, banking, insurance, university registration, and other matters are all facilitated through the Oregon Study Center.
