Description:
| Study German in Bayreuth, a small, quaint city in northern Bavaria, known for its annual Richard Wagner music festival, its fine university, and its picturesque surroundings. Bayreuth's central location in the unified Germany makes it ideal for travel to both East and West. The Universitat Bayreuth, a modern institution with 9,000 students, will host the Winter Session Program.
The winter program includes two weekend excursions to the bustling metropolis of Berlin (often with a stop in Weimar on the way back to follow the steps of the literary legend Goethe) and to the sophisticated Bavarian capital of Munich. Students are also given one free weekend to explore the region and travel on their own. A stay in Bayreuth would not be complete without a tour of Richard Wagner's home, Villa Wahnfried, conveniently located in the center of town. Day trips from Bayreuth typically include visits to the nearby cities of Nuremberg and Bamberg.
Students reside either singly or in pairs in private German homes. Bedding and linen are provided, as well as breakfast daily. Students will be given a stipend to cover the cost of other meals. The faculty director will inform students of the locations of the university dining hall and other moderately priced eating establishments.
