| The University of Melbourne's Political Science Department is committed to providing an understanding of government and politics at both the applied and the
theoretical levels. Closely supervised internships are avenues to learning that give opportunity to apply knowledge directly, to clarify career goals, to establish professional
contacts, and to refine essential skills.
The University of Melbourne designs the academic internship for students who wish to gain practical experience in a political setting while earning academic credit for
readings, research, and analysis related to, and building upon, the internship experience.
University of Melbourne and Victorian Parliament supervisors will provide academic and practical guidance, counsel, and evaluation.
The political science department at the University has designed the internship to help students in:
1.Learning about the functioning of the Victorian parliament through the application of theoretical insights and academic knowledge to first-hand experience.
2.Clarifying career goals, acquiring professional contacts, and assisting with career advancement.
3.Gaining practical knowledge and three-tier system of federal and state government, and developing professional orientations and values.
4.Enhancing the observation of comparisons with the British system of government.
5.Strengthening analytical and research capabilities and writing skills.
The Public Affairs Internship places students in local government and nonprofit organizations. | |
