Description:
| Study French in Caen, a dynamic city of 200,000 that blends a thousand-year history with the high-tech wonders of the modern age. Caen's location in the heart of Normandy, just 7.5 miles from the English Channel and a two-hour drive from Paris, makes it very convenient for individual and group travel. Famous for its cider and calvados brandy, cheeses and seafood, Caen provides a treat for the senses for any visitor to the region. The Universite de Caen and its center for foreign students will host the winter program in Caen.
The Delaware group will land in Paris and spend the first several days of the program touring the historic City of Light. Students will have ample time to see most of the capital's major sites, including the famed boulevard Champs Elysees and the world-class Louvre. En route to Caen the group often stops at Versailles to see the magnificent palace and gardens of King Louis XIV. Numerous full- and half-day excursions are planned in and around Caen, including visits to the World War II Landing Beaches and the Memorial Museum for Peace. Trips are typically taken to the towns of Bayeaux and Rouen, and of course to the breathtaking and imposing Mont Saint-Michel.
Students reside either singly or in pairs in private French homes. Bedding and linen are provided, as well as breakfast and dinner daily. Students will be given a dining hall pass which will cover the cost of lunches taken at the university dining hall during the week.
