Description:
| Morocco: Sun, sand, and one of the most beautiful and ecologically diverse countries in the Mediterranean region.
As you travel through Morocco, you’ll experience its varied habitats, from Agadir’s beaches, to the coastal plains that merge at Marrakech and rise to the Atlas Mountains, to the Sahara desert. The different ecosystems produce an astounding assortment of vegetation--forests with large stands of cork oak, evergreen oak, juniper, cedar, fir, and pine along with argan (thorny trees found principally in Morocco). In addition to seeing the country’s wild side, you’ll explore Morocco’s agricultural production, which includes tomatoes, potatoes, oranges, melons, olives, grapes, pulses, dates and cereals. Spend Winter Session in Morocco, and you’ll come away with a deeper understanding of how geography and agriculture interact with economic forces to shape a nation.
Culturally, Morocco is almost as diverse as its environment, with 11 spoken languages, and a mixture of peoples including Arabs, Berbers, Jews and Europeans. Its location--in the northwestern corner of the African continent, bounded by two seas, and only 10 miles away from southern Spain—has long made it a crossroads for people from many lands, and a popular destination for filmmakers (David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia; Martin Scorcese’s Kundun). It was the setting for Casablanca, and has historical links to the French Foreign Legion and to the Casbah. Join us in Morocco this winter — and discover whole new worlds.
