Description:
| Siena is located less than an hour south of Florence in the heart of Tuscany. A city of 70,000, it is one of the most important and beautiful medieval centers of Europe. Today, Siena is noted for the Palio, a horse race run in the Campo, the central square, and dating back to medieval times. Students will be able to experience the excitement of the Palio, which takes place on July 2. The one-week Village Retreat, June 15-22, will start this program off with a unique and intensive language-learning and cultural experience. We are scheduled to live with local families in the hilltop town of Acquaviva Picena overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Our host families will learn with us as we participate in ALCG 2002 (Arte, Lingua, Cultura, Gastronomia)! Our rich language and cultural exchange will include Pasticciarte, an art workshop, theatre, and cooking for everyone. The Village Retreat will prepare students at all levels for a great language learning experience in Italy. Following the Village Retreat students will take classes at the Centro Internazionale Dante Alighieri, Monday through Friday, for a total of 20 hours a week. Language courses are offered at all levels. There are courses that focus on all four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) as well as courses in literature, culture, and civilization. Plavcement is determined by exam upon arrival and in consultation with the program director. | |
